Paddle Battle is a sport designed to be all-inclusive and fun. Feel free to adjust the the following to suit your game. Email with any questions.
- Paddle Battle is a passive aggressive game played using a combination of paddles and a hacky sack. Two lacrosse-size nets (6 ft/sq) serve as goals. The object of the game is for warriors playing out, to kick, smack, cradle, balance, juggle, and pass the sack down to your opponents goal and get it in. You can do almost anything but use your hands. Your weapon is a double-ended paddle called "Paddle Effex ™." Goalies defend their net with a set of two "Paddle Effex Half Paddles™" for fast, independent hand maneuverability.
- To begin play, the center offensive players square off in the center of the field. Each player places their Paddle Effex paddle at their feet, parallel to their opponent's paddle and one paddle length apart (paddles are perpendicular to the sidelines). Another player, or referee, tosses the sack up in the air between them to begin the game. Using their feet and legs only, both players try and kick the sack out of the zone (the small area between the paddles). When the sack clears the zone, both sides go for the sack and the game is on.
- Important Rules During Play: Paddle Battle is an aggressive game but you do not check your opponent or strike his stick with your stick. Doing so is a penalty and is prohibited. Plus, you will have more fun not doing so. Your stick is a tool to develop your skills and incorporate with other parts of your body during battle. When the sack hits the ground and and you are first one on, cover the sack with your paddle and yell " Cover ! " You now have possession of the sack. Your opponents must retreat three yards as you pick up the sack and resume game.
- Keep the sack moving at all times. Toss, juggle, smack, or run with the sack. You may kick the sack. You can carry the sack on the end of your paddle. The only thing you cannot use is your hands. If you use your hands, game is stopped and possession goes to the other team.
- Stay healthy: We highly recommend you have drink and have plenty of water, Gatorade, and other non-carbonated beverages before and throughout the game. You will burn up a lot of energy in the game so regulate yourself accordingly. Stop immediately if you do not feel right.
- An official Paddle Battle game is played with 12 players - one goalie, two defense, and three offense or attack players on a level battlefield with 50 yards distance between nets. Like in lacrosse, you can play behind the net. If you do not have 12 players, play with the number of players you have. When you do this, you may want to shorten the playing field.
